SPY and QQQ Price Action: October 19, 2026 Market Recap
SPY closed Monday, October 19, 2026, at 766.48, up 3.23 or 0.42% from Friday’s close of 763.25. QQQ closed at 718.36, up 8.56 or 1.21% from 709.80. Both indexes gapped up at the open and finished higher on the day, but both closed in the lower part of the day’s range, well short of the highs.
Monday in numbers
SPY opened at 767.23, 3.98 above Friday’s close, ran between 765.82 and 770.46, and closed at 766.48. The close sat about 14% of the way up a 4.64 range, 0.75 below the open. In plain terms, the gap up was never extended and the session drifted to the bottom of its range.
QQQ opened at 719.61, 9.81 above Friday’s close, ran between 716.57 and 724.55, and closed at 718.36. That is about 22% of the way up a 7.98 range, 1.25 below the open. The shape matches SPY: gap up, high near the open, lower close.
Neither index traded back near Friday’s lows. SPY’s Monday low of 765.82 is 5.18 above Friday’s low of 760.64, and QQQ’s Monday low of 716.57 is 9.34 above Friday’s 707.23. I am not going to tell you why Monday looked the way it did. The chart shows where price stopped, and that is enough to work with.
Where Monday sat against last week’s lines
On SPY, Monday’s low at 765.82 dipped under Wednesday’s low of 766.71 and held above Thursday’s low of 764.43. On QQQ, Monday’s range stayed between Thursday’s low of 715.44 and Wednesday’s low of 726.39, so the whole session happened in the gap between those two lines. The Wednesday lows are overhead on both charts, and Monday’s highs did not reach QQQ’s.
That is the kind of detail a level is for. A line that gave way on the way down becomes a place price may come back to test from below. Monday did not reach QQQ’s Wednesday low at all, while SPY traded on both sides of its own.
Levels to keep on the chart
For SPY, keep Friday’s low at 760.64, Thursday’s low at 764.43, Wednesday’s low at 766.71 and Monday’s high at 770.46. For QQQ, keep Friday’s low at 707.23, Thursday’s low at 715.44, Monday’s high at 724.55 and Wednesday’s low at 726.39. Nothing needs to happen at any of them. They are places to pay attention.
What is on the calendar for the rest of the week
The calendar feed lists no high-impact U.S. releases for October 19 to 23. Unemployment Claims is listed for Thursday, October 22, at 8:30am ET with a forecast of 200K against 199K previous. On Friday, October 23, the flash Manufacturing and Services PMIs come at 9:45am ET, with forecasts of 55.4 and 57.8 against 57.0 and 58.7 previous, and the revised University of Michigan consumer sentiment follows at 10:00am ET with a forecast of 46.3 against 46.3 previous. These are forecasts and previous readings only, and I make no call on where the numbers land.
Figures are from daily SPY and QQQ price data pulled after the October 19, 2026 close. This feed has revised small details after the close before, so I recheck the next morning and correct this page if anything moved.
